Details Regarding the Vacant Post of Principal, Primary Schools

In accordance with paragraph 2 of the Recruitment and Employment Code of the First Schedule of the Public Service Act, Cap. 29, applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for permanent or temporary appointment to the above-mentioned post.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A postgraduate degree; and

  1.  A certificate, diploma or an associate degree in Education; and
  2. A certificate in Educational Management or in Educational Leadership or in a
    related discipline; and
  3. Not less than ten years’ relevant experience.

 

Duties And Responsibilities:

  1. Supervises the teachers at his school;
  2. Executes the instructions of the Chief Education Officer;
  3. Implements and follows the policies of the Ministry;
  4. Prepares in consultation with the Teachers, a Scheme of work based on the official curriculum, suited to the needs of the pupils;
  5. Prepares the timetable for the school and organizes the school in accordance with the timetable;
  6. Makes the timetable available to pupils, teachers, Education Officers and any
    other person acting under the authority of the Minister;
  7. Allocates duties among the Teachers in order to make the best use of the special aptitudes of each Teacher;
  8. Provides leadership in the improvement of educational programme and renders guidance and advice to Teachers;
  9. Takes necessary steps to ensure that pupils make satisfactory progress in all parts of the curriculum;
  10. Registers pupils, classifying them according to their course of study, records their progress through the school and submits periodic reports on the pupils’ progress to their parents;
  11. Ensures that discipline is maintained throughout the school at all times;
  12. Administers corporal punishment when necessary and delegates to the Senior
    Teachers where applicable, the authority to administer corporal punishment;
  13. Holds at least one staff meeting every school term and keeps a record of the
    business transacted at the meeting;
  14. Exercises reasonable care to ensure the physical safety of pupils during any
    period of school activity, including any period of recess;
  15. Reports annually, or at such other times as the Chief Education Officer
    determines, on the performance of Teachers;
  16. Takes all necessary steps to ensure co-operation with parents, Parent- teacher
    Associations and other related bodies;
  17. Supervises the non-teaching staff of the school;
  18. Ensures that the attendance of pupils at school is duly recorded in the attendance register provided for that purpose;
  19. Makes annual reports on the state of the school premises,
  20. Forwards correspondence from staff without delay to the appropriate person; and
  21. Has control of the building, premises, apparatus, equipment and furniture of the school.

 

SALARY SCALE:

S6: $98, 230.43 per annum (fixed).

ALLOWANCE:
a non-taxable telephone allowance – $80.59 per month
